Research for Memorium #2 (Photography Michelle Tan), an investigation of the mortality rate arising from domestic violence. On November 25th, I will place ephemeral sculptures in Garigal National Park (Killarney Heights – Australia) and stage a series of living pictures during a meditative walk. The clay sculptures will steadily decay in the natural environment raising issues of loss, remembrance and collective responsibility. During the creative process, I photographed historic cemeteries in Australia, France and Argentina and collected Victorian mourning memorabilia such as post-mortem photography and flower wraps. This celebration of death shows a drastic change with post modern pragmatic, individualist and materialist society where death has disappeared from the familial and social spheres to move into the medical one.
